In the earliest plans the Main Church in Chełmno was to be completed with two beautiful, lofty towers. When one tower was finished, work over the others was initiated. However, time ran and the tower was far from being complete. In order to meet deadline, a decision was made to continue the constructing works on Sunday and religious festivals. Thus God, enraged by this apparent disrespect for his laws, sent a thunder, which struck and destroyed the tower. In spite of numerous attempts to conclude the construction, the tower has not been finished until today.
